Our drama teacher and coordinator of international projects, Maja Sviben, is one of this year’s award winners of the Croatian Center for Drama Education!
Maja was awarded the Award for continuous successful drama pedagogic work and special contribution and promotion of Croatian drama pedagogy in the European context! Congratulations!
Here is the full rationale of the professional committee:
Maja Sviben is a playwright and drama pedagogue, an external associate at the postgraduate specialist study of drama pedagogy at the Faculty of Teacher Education of the University of Zagreb, founder and member of the editorial board of the portal Drame.hr, co-founder of the art collective SKROZ, co-editor of three collections of plays for children and young people, author of interactive theatre projects, and coordinator of international projects at Tirena Theatre.
Maja led numerous dramaturgical workshops, drama writing and speech culture workshops for teachers and young people in Croatia and abroad. As an author, playwright and screenwriter, she collaborated on about fifty projects in various Croatian theatres and artistic organisations and institutions. Her artistic work has been praised with several awards.
She is especially sensitised to work with vulnerable groups, so she led dramatic activities with groups of addicts and in homes for the elderly.
Maja has been a member of the HCDO for many years, and in one term she was also a board member. As part of international projects and events, she has been promoting Croatian drama pedagogy for years. At European drama encounters and Erasmus projects, she has been a representative of Croatia for many years, as a leader of workshops or groups for children and young people.
Workshops, trainings and professional development are carried out as part of international projects such as “Let’s Communicate”, “The Art of Teaching”, “Inclusion and Safety in the Digital Age”, “Academy for Creative, Innovative and Inclusive Schools”, therefore the Commission awards Maja Sviben the award for continuous and successful drama teaching work for many years and special contribution and promotion of Croatian drama pedagogy in the European context.
