The initiator of the Erasmus+ project “Bina Mira” was Heinz Jussen, a peace activist and environmentalist who started his humanitarian work during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. After the war, he wanted to build a real stage of peace, in Tuzla, on the occasion of the World Day of Peace, which is celebrated on September 21. The idea was to bring together young artists from all over Europe every year. The idea of an actual stage didn’t see the light of day, but the festival did. The first “Bina Mira” took place in 2008 in Tuzla, followed by Aachen, and then the “Bina Mira” continued its journey in the form of a traveling festival.
The aim of the project is to give young people from different parts of Europe the opportunity to gather in a different city every year to work together on the themes of peace, tolerance, cultural and religious diversity, all through theatre performances and art. So far, “Bina Mira” has taken place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Serbia, Belgium, and Slovenia.
Drama Studio of Tirena Theatre participated in the project in 2019, when 9 of our students took part in the workshops, and they also performed a play by D. Kharms “Is the Case Coincidental?”
Covid 19 stopped the project for two years, but because of that two Bina Mira festivals took place in 2022 – one in Postojna, where we performed the piece ” You can’t escape Sunday” in addition to participating in the workshops, and the other in Višegrad, where we staged the performance “I am in the space of many pictures….”
During the day, young people participate in workshops that end with presentations, and every evening there are plays and performances by theatre groups participating in Bina Mira.
