“I act, therefore I am!” is a project carried out by Mala Scena Theater in collaboration with Tirena Theatre. The workshops within the project took place in Pakrac and Daruvar. The aim of the project was to develop social and creative skills and to strengthen the self-confidence of young people between the ages of 15 and 25 through artistic and creative workshops in order to prevent anti-social behaviour.
More than 160 young participants took part in various theater and arts workshops, learning all aspects of creating theater performances during the 14 months of project implementation. Performance skills were learned in acting and circus workshops, physical theatre workshops, voice work and puppet animation. In acting, costume design and scenography workshops, they learned about the medium of theatre through practical work. In PR and web workshops they were introduced to the basics of media literacy and created a website for the project.
In the last phase of the project, the play Thieves of Time was developed using the method of cooperative theatre. The theme was derived from the participants improvisations during the three months of the project – chronic lack of time. Why should we have more time, do we use it wisely, why do we feel that time passes too quickly and that someone is stealing it from us? Who are the time thieves and can we turn back or stop time? The premiere of the performance took place on the 28th of April in Pakrac. The premiere in Zagreb took place on the 4th of May 2019 at the Mala Scena Theatre.
