The play “Network” made by director Iva Olujić and playwright Nina Horvat premiered on Friday, November 17th 2023 at the Trešnjevka Cultural Center!
The play features actors Veronika Mach and Luka Šatara, set and costume design by Ana Paulić, sound design by Jona Jovanović, lighting design by Alen Marin, and visual design by Ana Goja.
After a public fight, two influencers were flooded with negative comments, threats and insults on social networks. Despite their disagreements, they decide to start a joint profile where, through a series of attractive and entertaining videos, they try to draw their followers’ attention to the problematic side of social networks.
In their videos, they cover topics such as trolls in comments, hate speech, security, virtual identities, cyberbullying, dangerous challenges, the consequences of excessive use of social networks… Their videos become viral, the number of followers grows, and the pressure is increasing. Will they be able to handle it?
Social networks have made it possible for everyone to have a platform to express themselves. The voices of individuals are amplified, but at the same time there is no regulation of the information that these voices put out into the world. Things are often taken for granted, and critical thinking is not developed enough. The play “Network” deals with how to successfully “navigate” the virtual world in which the units of measurement are the number of followers, the number of hearts under the post and the number of views.
The show is supported by the Center for a Safer Internet:
“The Center for a Safer Internet supports the performance of the play “Mreža” by the Tiren Theater. The themes of the play are intertwined with the area of work of the Center for a Safer Internet and we gladly accepted this cooperation. We consider working with young people on the topic of safety on the Internet in the form of a play to be an excellent opportunity for reflection and conversation , and we consider it particularly important to emphasize the various dangers that children and young people can face in the online world. This cooperation is the result of recognizing common values and goals, working with young people on current problems that they can face online, specifically on the use of social networks , influencer monitoring, but also electronic violence and online sexual harassment, which is unfortunately faced by a large number of children and young people around the world, including in Croatia. In a situation when young people are faced with various dangers of the online world, it is important that we, as adults, provide them our support and ensure the protection of their rights. In the event that some young people recognize that they themselves have been victims of electronic violence, our Center is here to provide support to them and their families. Please note that the Center for a Safer Internet is available to all interested persons, especially children and young people, on the free and anonymous line 0800 606 606, every working day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
